Case Study: Hotel Custom Wire Cage Storage for Visiting Hockey Teams

The Challenge

For one Holiday Inn in Western Canada, visiting hockey teams were a welcome and steady source of business. Yet the reality of competitive hockey travel brought an unexpected complication: equipment bags filled with pads, skates, and jerseys often found their way into guest rooms.

The result was predictable and problematic. Hockey gear carries a reputation for a reason. When stored in or near occupied rooms, odours began to affect the experience of other guests.

The hotel needed a smarter solution.

They required a secure storage area away from guest spaces, where teams could safely store their equipment during their stay. And with the hockey season quickly approaching, timing mattered. The system needed to be designed and installed before demand ramped up.

Several factors had to be addressed:

  • Hockey equipment stored in guest rooms was creating odour issues that affected nearby guests

  • There was no designated secure storage for visiting teams

  • The solution needed to be operational before the peak hockey season

  • Multiple areas within the parkade had to be evaluated to determine the best location for installation

Our Approach

We met the hotel team on site to evaluate the available options within the parkade. Several potential spaces were identified, each offering different advantages depending on layout, access, and security.

Rather than proposing a single option, multiple cage layouts were developed for the viable spaces. This allowed the client to clearly see how each area could function as a storage solution before making a final decision.

Together, the team selected the room that best suited the hotel's operations.

Importantly, a second room was also evaluated and designed, creating a ready-to-implement expansion plan should the hotel’s sports team bookings continue to grow.

The installed system included:

  • Four custom wire storage cages installed in a secure parkade room completely separated from guest areas

  • Three dedicated team cages, each providing visiting hockey teams with a private lockable space for their equipment

  • One facility cage reserved for hotel use, allowing staff secure on-site storage within the same system

  • Space-optimized cage layouts, designed specifically to maximize capacity within the room’s dimensions

  • Future expansion readiness, with a second room already assessed and a storage solution designed

The Result

Today, the hotel has a professional, purpose-built storage solution that supports the way they host sports teams.

Visiting players and coaches now have a secure place to store their gear, while hotel guests enjoy a cleaner, odour-free environment. The installed security cages quietly solve a real operational problem while helping the hotel better serve visiting teams.

Key outcomes include:

  • Odour-free guest rooms as hockey equipment is now stored in a dedicated parkade space away from guest areas

  • Secure team storage, with three private lockable cages giving visiting teams confidence their equipment is protected

  • On-time project delivery, ensuring the system was fully operational before hockey season demand increased

  • Built-in scalability, with a second room already evaluated and designed for future expansion

  • Enhanced hospitality experience, offering organized, professional storage for sports teams staying at the hotel

Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest; purpose-built security cages installed in exactly the right place.
