Can You Move Your Existing Pallet Racking and Shelving to a New Location?

If your business is moving facilities, replacing every rack, shelf, and locker may not be necessary. Existing storage equipment can potentially be dismantled, transported, and installed in the new location.

The bigger question is whether the existing system still makes sense for the new space.

A different building may have a different footprint, storage capacity, workflow, or racking layout. Instead of assuming the old setup should simply be rebuilt in the new facility, the move creates an opportunity to decide what can be reused and how it should fit into the new operation.

Westbow Systems provides storage planning, dismantling, transportation, and reinstallation services to help businesses manage that process.

Can Existing Racking and Shelving Be Reused?

Existing storage equipment can be incorporated into a new facility when it suits the requirements of the project.

Westbow Systems has done this in previous warehouse relocations. When Husqvarna Construction Products moved to a new warehouse, Westbow Systems designed the layout using some of the company’s existing shelving, racking, and workbenches. New pallet racking was then added to complete the storage setup.

That is an important distinction when planning a move. The decision does not necessarily have to be between keeping everything and replacing everything.

Some existing equipment may work well in the new layout, while other areas may require a different configuration or additional storage. Planning the system around the new facility helps determine where existing equipment can continue to serve the operation.

Do You Reinstall the Same Layout?

Not necessarily.

A warehouse or commercial storage area should be planned around the space where it will actually operate. Westbow Systems provides planning and design services based on the available space, storage requirements, and workflow.

That means racking or shelving from the old facility can potentially be arranged differently after the move.

For example, the new building may provide different opportunities for pallet storage, shelving placement, work areas, or material movement. Recreating the previous layout without considering those differences could miss the opportunity to make better use of the new space.

Who Takes the Racking and Shelving Apart?

Westbow Systems provides dismantling services for shelving, racking, and lockers as part of its storage relocation services.

For pallet racking specifically, Westbow Systems also provides tear-down and relocation services. The process includes identifying issues before removal begins and dismantling the system for relocation.

This matters because pallet racking is different from ordinary furniture or equipment that can simply be loaded onto a moving truck. It has to be taken apart and later installed again as a storage system.

Westbow Systems can handle the storage equipment through the different stages of the move rather than leaving the business to coordinate dismantling and reinstallation separately.

Who Transports and Reinstalls It?

Westbow Systems can transport dismantled storage equipment to the new facility and reinstall it according to the planned setup.

This creates a connected process:

Your existing storage is dismantled, moved to the new location, and reinstalled based on the requirements of the new space.

If the new layout requires additional storage, Westbow Systems can also incorporate new equipment alongside the existing system. That was the approach used for the Husqvarna warehouse relocation, where existing equipment was reused while new pallet racking was added where required.

What If the Racking Layout Changes?

Moving pallet racking into a new building can involve more than choosing where each row will go.

This is another reason to plan the new layout before simply rebuilding the previous setup.

The goal is to determine what existing equipment can be incorporated, what the new facility requires, and how the complete storage system should be installed in that space.

Planning a Facility Move?

You do not need to decide in advance whether all of your existing racking, shelving, or lockers should move with you.

Westbow Systems can review the storage needs of the new facility, develop the layout, and determine how existing equipment can fit into the project. From there, Westbow Systems can handle dismantling, transportation, and reinstallation, while incorporating additional storage where the new layout requires it.
